How Laser Hair Removal Works
First, the laser equipment is adjusted to your unique hair and skin specifications. The hand-held laser instrument is held against the skin to allow pulsating beams of light target the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The heat from the laser damages the hair follicles, inhibiting future hair growth while leaving the surrounding skin untouched. A special cooling device is applied on the skin to provide more comfort during the procedure.
Small areas such as the upper lip may only take a few minutes, while larger areas, such as the back, may take an hour. Several treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired results.
Common side effects include skin irritation, temporary redness, swelling and pain. Laser hair removal may cause the treated skin to become lighter or darker, but this is usually temporary.
